High Gain of UWB Planar Antenna Utilising FSS Reflector for UWB Applications

In this paper, a high gain and directional coplanar waveguide (CPW)-fed ultra-wideband (UWB) planar antenna with new frequency selective surface (FSS) unit cells design is proposed for UWB applications. The was designed based on the Mercedes artistic-shaped (MAP) antenna. consisted of circular ring embedded three straight legs impedance bandwidth improvement. modelled FSS used integration two parallel conductive metallic patch loop structure. provided stopband filter response covering 10.5 GHz, frequencies from 2.2 to 12.7 GHz. had compact physical dimension 5 mm × 1.6 mm, printed array 19 cells. were only one side dielectric FR4 substrate placed as sandwich between reflector ground plane. An equivalent circuit configuration (ECC) verify cell structure’s performance. simulated results indicated that MAP fractional 136% 11.5 dB at 8.5 GHz an acceptable radiation efficiency 89%.
